Envirolak T9000 primer is a 1K bonding and stain blocking primer for new construction or refinish applications.
Envirocryl T9000 offers industry leading stain, dye and tannin blocking in an easy to use, one-component water based acrylic primer. T9000 has excellent adhesion to a variety of existing coatings (solvent or water based) as well as veneers, solid wood or MDF.
T9000 blocks tannin, stains and dye migration in one coat in most cases. For stubborn bleeding a second coat may be required.
If you are using a dark colored topcoat, it is necessary to apply 1 coat of Envirolak 170 or 180 primer after applying T9000. T9000 cannot be tinted and is only available in white.
Raw wood/veneer/MDF: The surface should be sanded with 180 - 320 grit sandpaper prior to applying primer. Very lightly sand primer with 320 grit or fine sponges prior to application of next layer for best appearance. You may apply another coat of PRT9000 on itself without sanding in between. If using powered sanders it is beneficial to reduce the speed to prevent heat which will reduce clogging.
Refinishing: The existing finish needs to be thoroughly cleaned with a degreaser to remove oil, grease, surface stains and any chipped or flaking paint. Sand the substrate with 180 - 320 grit sandpaper or fine sanding sponges. Failure to properly prepare a previously finished surface prior to finishing with ELPRT9000 may result in film failures such as fisheyes or loss of adhesion.
Typical system for light color refinishing with a 1K topcoat:
- Prep surface with degreaser and clean (simple green, krud-kutter, insl-x heavy duty degreaser). Rinse with dish soap and water. Let the surface dry.
- Sand with 220-320 sand paper or fine sanding sponges.
- Apply a coat of T9000 bonding/stain blocking primer at 4 mils.
- Wait 1-2 hours, 2 hours to be safe, sand with 320 grit or very fine/super fine sponges.
- Mix in 3% by weight/volume of isocyanate free crosslinker (optional) and apply a coat of Envirothane 800 series 1K topcoat.
- Apply additional topcoat after 1-2 hours, if necessary.
Drying schedule:
To Touch: 30 minutes
To sand: 1-2 hours
To topcoat: 4-24 hours (1-2 hours with Envirothane 800 series 1K)
The unique stain blocking chemistry of T9000 makes it sensitive to early recoat times when using 1K polyurethane products. Most acrylic, urethane/acrylic or 2K isocyanate based coatings can be applied within 2-4 hours of primer application. One component polyurethanes (PR170/ELNYW200) may require overnight drying or longer if more than one coat (>5 wet mils) of T9000 was applied.
Air movement or heat applied to any subsequent coat over top of PRT9000 will reduce recoat times and the risk of that coat from cracking.
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS:
Machine wash separately in cold water on a gentle cycle. Tumble dry separately on low heat. Add QE Home Wool Dryer Balls to reduce wrinkles and increases drying efficiency. Touch up with a low heat iron as needed. Do not bleach or dry clean.
